When do I make my color selections for my rewards?

You will be able to choose your finishes and colorways in the post-project survey that we will send via BackerKit.

Can I add-on items that aren't included in one of the reward packages?

Yep! You’ll have the chance to add any of the individual items in our reward packages to your order after the project closes in the BackerKit survey. All add-ons will be at the Kickstarter pricing. If you are adding on a larger item(s) there may be a small additional shipping charge, but generally the smaller items don’t have an additional shipping fee.

We also offer our Kickstarter backers great deals on many of our previous Kickstarter rewards as add-ons in the BackerKit survey. :)

How do I pledge?

To pledge to a project, make sure you’re first logged in to your Kickstarter account.

Then, just click the green “Back This Project” button on the campaign page. Alternatively, you can scroll down to select a reward tier.

After you’ve selected your reward tier, you’ll be prompted to enter in your payment information. Be sure to select the appropriate country from the drop-down.

If you don’t want a specific reward tier, select “Make a pledge without a reward” and enter your desired pledge amount.

Lastly, click the “Pledge” button and you’ll be all set! You should receive a confirmation email after completing your pledge.

When is my card charged?

Your card will be charged when the project reaches its funding deadline. If our project does not reach its funding goal, your card is never charged.

Some backers may see a temporary authorization of funds at the time of pledging, before a project has been successfully funded. Authorizations generally drop after a few days, but this process can vary depending on your financial institution. If you notice an authorization that doesn’t drop, we recommend that you contact your bank for more details about their authorization procedure.

I was not able to pledge to the project in time. How can I still back the project?

If you weren’t able to pledge before the project’s deadline, it won’t be possible to pledge through Kickstarter. But we continue to take orders through BackerKit after the project closes and then our website after rewards have shipped. Shoot us a message at [email protected] if you’re interested!

Is it secure to pledge on Kickstarter?

Kickstarter uses Stripe as their payment partner. Stripe meets and exceeds the most stringent industry standards for security. You can learn more about the technical details of Stripe’s secure infrastructure here.

Kickstarter does not store full credit card numbers – only the last four digits and expiration date. Saving your payment details for future use is entirely optional.

Where do you make your products?

ALL of our products are made by us (Chad & Jess, and the very occasional part-time employee) in our Chicago-area workshop. :) Yep! You read that right we make everything ourselves!

Where do you get the materials you use to make your products?

We source our materials from all over the world, focusing on the story and quality-of-life for the animal or people involved in making or sourcing the material.

How do you ship?

We ship via USPS. For US-based backers that means your package will be delivered to you mailbox by your mail person. For international backers that means that our US Postal Service gets the package to your country and then your local post delivers to you.

If USPS is not a good option for you for whatever reason, please shoot us a message at [email protected] and we can arrange alternative shipping. We can also ship via UPS, FedEx, and DHL. Additional fees may apply.

When will my rewards ship?

After the project closes, Kickstarter allows two weeks to process all the payments and transfer the funds. Once we receive the project funds we send the backer surveys via BackerKit. We allow about a week for backers to complete their surveys so we can get an accurate assessment of color choices. Then we place our orders for the materials. Most of our materials arrive to us within 2-3 weeks, and then we begin production.

Will I have to pay customs fees?

That depends on the cost of the reward and the laws in your specific country. We cannot mark your reward as “gift” to avoid any fees as this is against regulations and can result in significant fines for us.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
